How We Can Help

A Listening Ear

Being diagnosed with cancer can be a huge shock.

You might be overwhelmed, worried about what happens next or thinking about the impact on your life. We can provide an Active Listener to enable you to talk through your feelings and concerns without burdening friends or family and perhaps help you to regain some control of your life.

This is done with complete confidentiality.

Our fundamental aim at Cancer Support France Haute-Vienne and our national association is to support all anglophones living in France who are touched by cancer.

We realise you may be feeling vulnerable as a result of all that is happening in their life either as patient, partner, family member or close friend.

Having sensitivity and confidentiality to your needs, both spoken and unspoken, is essential.

Confidentiality is, therefore, one of the foundation stones of our support work. Our Active Listeners are fully trained in Cancer Support France Haute-Vienne’s legal obligation under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Le règlement général de protection des données (RGPD)) implemented into French law (Act No. 2018-493) on 20 June 2018. It is also an obligation under Cancer Support France Haute-Vienne’s affiliation agreement with Cancer Support National.

Language Support

Communicating with your doctors and the medical team can be really difficult even if your French is good.

The stress of the moment can make you forget a lot of the French that you know, and there is a lot of technical vocabulary involved. Having someone there to support you can ensure that you are able to understand exactly what is going on and ensure that you get answers to all the questions you may have.

We can offer you the aid of one of our language supporters for important meetings with your doctor, your oncologist, or any other member of the care team. It can be especially useful at the “Consultation d’Annonce”, the appointment when they tell you about your full diagnosis and your treatment. We can also help you communicate with the Assistante Sociale should you wish us to do this.

You can ask for this in the full knowledge that everything will be kept confidential.

Information

Finding information your need.

It is difficult to keep up with developments in the treatment of cancer, and we cannot know everything. But we can provide help by pointing you towards sources of information and help you find answers to your questions and concerns.

Our national site has an excellent forum. This forum is managed and administered by members of the national association and can by found by clicking the link below:
